JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer is a highly motivated and self-driven team player that has the ability to perform in a dynamic prototyping environment. The Project Engineer is responsible for all technical (software, mechanical, and electrical) oversight required for the design, development, and test of flight simulation training devices. The candidate will have a proven history of leading and managing teams of multi-disciplined engineers through the successful completion of product delivery. The candidate will have experience collaborating with engineers, group leads, operations, customers and program managers to deliver high quality products that meet and exceed project requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate all technical activities for assigned project(s) from initialization through close-out
  • Ensure project goals are achieved on-time, safely, in compliance, and per quality requirements
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned engineering work
    • Monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, regulations, accepted engineering practices, and standards
    • Ensure effective communication and coordination between all disciplines and all other project team members
  • Responsible for leading Hardware Software Integration efforts
  • Provide technical and administrative direction and leadership to Electrical, Mechanical, and Software Engineers
  • Review and provide decisions on technical specifications, designs, test plans, and milestone goals
  • Coordinate with the customer, technical interface, and engineering to define specific requirements that may affect training equipment design efforts
  • Coordinate and support status meetings and design reviews and oversees the approval process for all project change requests
  • Present to client audiences and/or professional peers
  • Create and maintain a Configuration Management Plan and a RTVM throughout project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and conduct technical presentations: SRR, PDR, CDR
  • Determine project responsibilities by:
    • Identifying project phases and elements
    • Assigning personnel to phases and elements
    • Generating input for technical scope requirements in proposals and reviewing bids from contractors
  • Determine project specifications by:
    • Studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards
    • Completing technical studies
    • Preparing cost estimates
    • Preparing system level designs
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager on the following:
    • Project monthly financial reporting variance analysis (root cause and corrective actions)
    • Technical inputs to Bids and proposals
    • Functional Engineering schedule inputs
    • Identification of Technical Risks and Mitigation Plans

The Avionics Software Engineer is a highly-motivated and self-driven team player capable of performing in a dynamic prototyping environment. The preferred candidate will understand and employ current software design methodologies and have a strong desire for innovation. This candidate is an experienced software engineer with broad technical knowledge, who can design and develop software from requirements, lead root-cause analysis, communicate options for resolution and provide recommendations for software defects.

The Avionics Software Engineer at TRU is responsible for the development, integration, testing, acceptance, and discrepancy resolution of software for avionics systems as they pertain to the aircraft being simulated. This position will work closely with the OEM, test pilots, and supporting documentation to ensure the models are functionally identical to the real aircraft. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, integrate, test, and document software ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for avionics systems, including:
    • Flight Controls Systems
    • Navigation Systems
    • Communication Systems
    • Flight Management System (FMS)
    • Engine Monitoring Systems
    • Glass Cockpit Displays
    • Weather Radar Systems
    • Terrain Awareness and Warning Systems (TAWS)
    • Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
  • Collaborate with cross functional engineers to meet project requirements
  • Develop acceptance test procedures to validate the functionality and performance of software models
  • Recommend, incorporate, and/or alter new and existing simulator designs and documentation 
  • Participate in engineering design reviews
  • Perform hardware/software integration and testing on flight simulator training devices ensuring seamless operation and interaction with other simulator components
  • Provide engineering staff with recommendations for software/hardware enhancements by staying updated with the latest advancements in aircraft systems, avionics technology, and simulation methodologies
  • Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
